Are you generating ‘engaging’ content for your social media strategy?

You have worked so hard to build the reputation of your business, all you have to do is maintain that position and showcase your achievements to the world, sounds easy, right?

Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn can be fantastic tools to help you achieve these goals, and we have compiled some tips and tricks to help keep your customers engaged with what you have to say.

Keep your customers coming back for more

Content is king and generating relevant, engaging and topical posts, blogs and updates is the best way to get your customers returning to your pages time and again.

But before you hit ‘submit’ on your post, think about how your customers might react, will they be genuinely interested in what you have to say? Add genuine value to their experience and offer the knowledge and expertise that makes your business different from the rest.

It’s always easy to link back to your own website or blog, but think about how you can expand the range of content you share to generate even more engagement and keep your customers coming back for more.

Be topical

It is important that your Tweets, LinkedIn updates and Facebook posts are fresh and topical, as social media sites are live, real time and are often where you hear news first.

Add your own insight or comment to information that’s a few days old to refresh it and add some value and relevance to your readers.

Use images

They say that pictures speak a thousand words and it might be a cliche, but it’s true! Research has shown that images create more engagement than posts with texts only. Facebook is a great platform to share photos, you can pin interesting shots to the top of the page and ask people to leave a comment and share their thoughts about your highlighted post.

Ask a question

One of the easiest ways to get a response to your updates on Facebook or Twitter is to ask people a question. Look at what’s trending on Twitter and get involved with the conversation, ask your followers what they think and always reply promptly to anything directed at you.

What’s more, the posts and responses to your questions might just give you some ideas for generating relevant, engaging content in the future.

Be responsive

Show your customers that you care about their interaction with you by responding to their comments in a timely manner. They have taken the time to write to you, so reply as soon as you can and remember you are representing your business in an extremely public platform, here’s your opportunity to showcase your fantastic customer service skills!

Get creative

Get your thinking caps on and get creative.  You can use festive or seasonal ideas to generate a contest or giveaway, for example, Boxed Red created an online game for the residents and businesses in the surrounding area. We placed a branded pumpkin in the streets around our office and challenged our Facebook and Twitter followers to ‘Spot the Pumpkin’ and gave away a box of sweets to the winner.

Be sincere

It is extremely important to represent your business well on social media sites. Always be sincere and use the platform to respond honestly to customer enquiries and questions that might come your way.

So, now’s the time to get started!

Generating original, engaging content for distributing on social media is vital, and it’s important to have enough time to follow these guidelines, as well as managing responses and reacting to topical events that pop up from time to time.
